Also, let me assure you I have not received or expect anything from this company for this review. The contractor we used was Kevin Morrison, 407-574-2424, and his company is South Shore Construction. He is very nice, patient, he will do as much or as little as you want. We interviewed and checked out three contractors. One of them put down not getting a building permit and that is a sign of someone who cuts corners. Kevin is an honest contractor which means follows the code and the law. He is ethical which means he treats you fairly and as he would want to be treated. He is a good guy. You should definitely interview him and let him evaluate your project. One last thing about Kevin. My wife is the type of person who carefully chooses a person to work with and then establishes a detailed plan and leaves it with the person to carry it out. I on the other hand, I enjoy getting into the details, coming to the site and inspecting, occasionally changing my mind and asking questions. "Where to begin? Kevin Morrison and every single top-notch professional tradesman who worked on my project went above and beyond while completing this large remodel and repair of my downstairs. Kevin was one of three companies I contacted for an estimate. The first company came out and promised to send me a proposal and I never heard from him again. The second never responded to my email asking for an appt. And then there was South Shore Construction who not only answered my request quickly but came out to the house within the week. What initially impressed me was everyone's approachability and the fact that even though my job was small in comparison to the type of jobs he normally works on, he made me feel that my work was just as important as all his projects. After the initial consult, he provided me with a detailed estimate within a week as he had promised. This was my first remodeling experience so I was anxious. We talked by phone and in person to go over questions and adjustments. Once we decided to do business with each other, he worked within my schedule to start the tear out and remodeling process. Because of the scope of work and some minor ordering backlogs, the job took four weeks. During those weeks, his crew always arrived when we had agreed upon, explaining what to expect and educating me on what they needed to do and why, making suggestions, allowing me to go pick out my flooring, countertops, and backsplash at their suppliers, and bringing cabinet samples to my home for selection. Kevin also made the time to make site visits to my house periodically to ensure the job was going to his satisfaction and mine. He is a perfectionist and has many years’ experience on construction projects. There were times I needed to talk with him and every single time I called or emailed, he responded to me on the same day. They all were so considerate of me and my family during the inconvenience of not having a kitchen or downstairs bathrooms for a time. "We have two homes: our primary residence in Atlanta, and a vacation home in Windermere, FL. and both were built in the 1920s. Over a period of 30 years we worked with different contractors in Atlanta on kitchen, bath, and attic renovations. These were all separate projects. In Windermere, we are remodeling the entire house. Although it is relatively small (three bedrooms and three baths), this is a big project with many details, and some complex situations. Selection of the right contractor was essential, and we found him! Kevin Morrison is wonderful! First and foremost, he is a great communicator. We were in Atlanta while the major work was being done (the kitchen and master bath renovation, painting, etc.) Kevin kept us completely informed.
